You Need To Get Omega 3 Fats In Your Diet, However You Can.

I’ve been taking Omega 3 Capsules and it seems to me that the evidence for taking more Omega 3 fatty acids in our diet is pretty clear and has been for some time. And the evidence also seems clear to me that our health is directly linked to the level of Omega3 fats in our diet.

But I recently spoke to a friend who told me he would never consider taking supplements. He told me that he considered that taking Omega 3 supplements was unproven and was not mainstream medicine. So I thought I’d discuss that.

Because it seems that there is a view that any form of dietary supplementation is unnecessary and just makes money for the people who make the supplements.

And it also seems that there are lots of people who consider that dietary supplementation is somehow alternative and that the mainstream medical profession do not recognise it’s value. That real people won’t take them.

So I’d like to consider whether there are recognised medical authorities that do recommend we increase our intake of Omega 3 fatty acids by way of supplemention and who recognize the Health Benefits Of Omega 3 Fats.

So let’s begin with the American Heart Association.

The American Heart Association says “Omega-3 fatty acids benefit the heart of healthy people, and those at high risk of , or who have, cardiovascular disease.

The AHA recommends that we eat at least 2 servings of fish a week and other foods high in omega 3 fats.

And they make quite specific recommendations for those with CHD (coronary heart disease). They should eat at least 1 gram of EPA and DHA per day, and for those who need to lower their triglycerides its suggested that they take from 2 to 4 grams of EPA and DHA as capsules, doctor supervised.

You can’t get any clearer than that. The AHA says on its website that we should increase our intake of Omega 3 fatty acids as food or as Omega 3 supplements.

Of course a dietary change can help to increase your intake of Omega 3 fatty acids. But that’s far from easy for many people and give you an example of why.

You can get Omega 3 oils in meat. Good old beef and lamb. But but you can’t if you buy grain fed beef and lamb because grass fed beef and lamb is higher in Omega3 but grain fed is not. And ours is grain fed.

As you can see it’s not that easy getting plenty of Omega 3 essential fatty acids into our diet and that’s why so many studies have concluded that our diet falls far short of the level of Omega3 fatty acid intake for good health.

And if you’re wondering where the mainstream medical acceptance of Omega 3 supplementation is, start with the AHA. They’re pretty mainstream. There’s nothing ‘alternative” about taking Omega 3 capsules to the AHA.
